Candidates: Who is going for SOM?

Posing question to candidates for VP and Member-at-Large:

If elected, during your elected term, are you harboring any hopes for applying to an Ops Management umbrella position?

Thanks

Kevin,

I've applied for the last two SOM openings. I wouldn't say that is where I see my career path going but the timing of each of the last two posting has fallen where I've thought why not?

I can't say I wouldn't put in again if the timing was right for my situation. With that said, my reasons for accepting the VP nomination are based around my current role as a dispatcher so it would be a big factor in my decision making if I were to apply again.

ATC/NATCA Assistance

Good afternoon,

We recently delivered bagles and pizza to the controlers at the TRACON in PTC and they were all very greatful and wanted to convey their thanks to all of you for thinking of them while they continue to report to work, unpaid and uncertain. While there, they mentioned that they are going to engage in informational leafleting at ATL in certain concourses next tuesday, October 28. The aieport authority has authorized 46 "slots" for them to use and they need help. They have sent a link to a sign up form (below) and would be extreemely greatful for any time you may be able to go to the airport and hand out leaflets with a controller. For those of you rightly curious, PAFCA Members are able to conduct informational picketing with other represented work groups so long as that activity does not interrupt Delta's, or any other carriers…

I can confirm that you do get a T-shirt out of the deal. Thanks Jim for posting the RSVP link. I’m glad I was able to meet some of our union brothers and sisters in NATCA and stand in solidarity with them. They’re highly appreciative of our support, and for the bagels and pizza delivered recently to A80.

"Update"

Good morning to all,

A number of our members have been impacted, in some way or another, by this possible Data Breach. The company continues to investigate at this time and has not given us an update. However, they have mentioned what to do going forward. Please click on the link:

Three ways to protect yourself from fraud

You can find this also on the DLNet home page under Company News. We continue to remind everyone to monitor your Credit Card and Banking activity. "If you see something, say something". Please be sure to notify PAFCA and your GM for fraudulent activity related to your Delta work email.

Please see the resource linked: https://www.usa.gov/credit-freeze

In addition to checking the big three Credit Bureaus- Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian, I have learned of a fourth credit bureau called Innovis as another means of checking your credit activity. It is recommended to protect yourselves from any fraudulent activity. That is all for now. Thanks for your time!

PAFCA / ADF Transition

PAFCA Brothers and Sisters,

Recently, I was given the honor of being chosen to lead the Airline Dispatchers Federation (ADF) as its president, a role I will assume on 01 January 2026. I’m humbled and I look forward to continuing to serve the dispatch and operations management professions in both the industry and government spaces. I’d like to thank Ryan Makings for his work as president, stepping into the role at a very difficult time after having lost our dear friend and colleague, Jared Micou. Ryan has done an excellent job moving the organization in the direction that Jared envisioned, he deserves our gratitude.

PAFCA-DAL bylaws prevent me from serving in both the PAFCA-DAL vice president and on the ADF board simultaneously. I will depart the board on 01 January, and the new VP will assume the position following a special election, the goal being to have the new…

AI

I think it’s safe to say there’s apprehension, which is understandable, over AI and the future of our profession—especially those of us not retiring anytime soon. I found this analysis informative and helpful by showing that the effects of AI don’t have to be “inevitable or pre-determined.” The section titled “Theme 2: Centering workers” really hit home.

Thanks for responding, Jim. I agree the potential for machine learning, Large Language Modeling (LLM), and other subsets of AI to improve our profession, are as vast as our opportunities to shape the regulatory framework of our profession. I look forward to how we as a membership, along with our fellow dispatchers across the industry, will shape that in the months and years ahead. After all, there isn’t anyone who knows what we do better than us.

Supporting Essential Workers During Government Shutdown

As I’m sure you are all well aware, our industry colleagues in ATC and TSA are continuing to work without pay providing their essential services. I’ve seen a slew of social media posts and local news reports about ALPA and/or crew members (either on their own or as a group) providing for these groups with boxes of pizza or Jimmy John’s sent to the control tower or airport break room to show support and solidarity during this time.

Has there been any discussion amongst our PAFCA leadership of following suit and providing a pizza lunch or something similar to the folks in the Atlanta ATCT? If not, are there some people in our membership that would like to split the cost of doing this on our own?

Motion for the Expansion of Executive Power, a True Necessity?

Based on the motion send by email on September 27th, the following were stated as the primary goals to accomplish:

  1. Create an Additional (Temporary) Board Position

Stated intent: "Our intent with this is to create a Board position now that would run through May 2027. Whether or not to continue it past then would be up to the current Board at the time. This position would not be permanent and would continually be evaluated on the need basis and whether we were getting value from it."

Currently our Applicable Bylaws give US the membership authority to create additional board members through the following articles:

Article IV OFFICERS

Section 1 PAFCA DAL shall have a President, Vice‑President, Secretary, Treasurer, and such other officers that the membership may determine appropriate.

To be clear I don't believe the board has nefarious intents. I am just questioning the necessity.
